EPIC MTB TRAILS
The Wilderness Trail
An epic West Coast trail that makes riding in bush, along waterways all accessible to all riders. Not too techy this trail winds its way along with the backdrop of the Southern Alps
This trail is 133km long and takes you from Greymouth to Ross on the West Coast of Te Waipounamu, South Island NZ
The trail can be ridden in either direction, in one go, or take as many days as you want. With many places where there is road access you can pick sections to do as well!
The trail is pretty accessible and is Graded 2, with some Grade 3, and the gradients very friendly except for a couple of sections where you can walk if more comfortable.
The main places for stopping are Kumara, and Hokitika, with some homestays and AirBnB in between. Cowboys Paradise unfortunately sits in a prime place for stopping however its checkered history means you just pass through for now!
The photos will give you a fair indication of the trail, and the views. Stunning like anywhere on a good day, when its wet its WET and sometimes means parts are closed due to flooding, but that’s our West Coast!

Has to be the greatest in NZ when it comes to where it takes you. Not for the beginner rider at all but and you need to go prepared
A trail of changing landscapes
Heaphy Track
An amazing trail that can now easily be ridden both ways. Tricky to get transport to and from due to its isolation but worth the effort to go 100%
The ‘Original Rail Trail’, still delivers!
Central Otago Rail Trail
An easy grade ride that can be ridden in sections as it crosses the road many times along the way. Got some long straights and wind at times, and it is a rail trail so nothing technical
