Hagley College

Telling the real authentic story

Changing the face of one of the most amazing schools in Christchurch

This is an old project but one I’m immensely proud of. It was to set Hagley on a different course

It was a shock when an old mate, Mike Fowler and Brent Ingram approached Marty to consider reviewing Hagley’s image and brand. I thought it was a music school, where they did film, such was the image I’d seen on the back of a bus!

Working with the super talented Charlotte Sowman, a recent graduate from Ara at the time, was a super exciting experience and we were to make an indelible mark on the education landscape in Christchurch.

The image needed to change, a different story had to be told…

No longer the school for no hopers, dropouts and for smoking in the park at lunchtimes… things were about to become more ‘real’.

Over some time we worked with the team at school to develop an overall strategy that would ‘facilitate this happening!

Behind the scenes, Brent was working on getting recognition for its ‘Special Character’, that would see it be able to enrol people from all over Christchurch. A truly great achievement to enable achievement for the next generation!

This was about the brand being, “real & authentic”

And it started with images of the actual students, telling their stories of discovering their mana and what it means to be ‘respected’, as they navigated school and growing up!

This process truly captured the beauty of each individual, and as they told their story, year after year, new students could see they could find their place at Hagley.

And it carried on across all aspects of media

Right down to students scripting soundtracks and words for radio adverts, then voicing them at the local studio!

It was exciting times as the whole perception of success was reframed, as young people found their spoce, voice and a place to flourish.

Then seeing the prospectus book essentially supporting students to imagine a programme uniquely supporting their learning and development as individuals!

It was a privelege to be a part of this process and experience

  • “Definitely outside the square. Attentive, perceptive, creative, flexible, supportive & reliable. Nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend”

    Sonja | Manager Ilam Health

  • Marty’s creative and diverse skill set, understanding of the health sector, and value-adding ideas contributed amazingly to our Practice re-branding and website development.

Jill | Manager St Martins Medical

  • I have been fortunate to have had Marty supporting my business for 20 years. He “gets us”, and helps others to “get us too”.

Kate Nattrass | Owner and Director of Tonix Healh

  • From the start we found Marty very easy and fun to engage, a good listener, flexible and patient but genuine, and current with his ideas. We were impressed with the options he presented , turn-around times and the final outcomes and costs for our brand refresh
