EPIC MTB TRAILS
The Otago Rail Trail
One of the real original rail trail rides, great for all riders
This trail is 152km long and traverses the old rail line route from Middlemarch to Clyde
This is great for anyone with gradient friendly and wide open trail, following where the tracks once carried freight and passengers to Central Otago
With plenty of stops along the way and access to the road that travels alongside there are options to ride sections, and shuttle between, or ride the whole thing!
A side trip to Naseby involves a bit on the road, but is well worth it, to discover a quaint old town with epic biking in the forest and nice eating and watering options!
As with many rail trails there are long straight stretches, and so come prepared for those and don’t complain about them! Generally you can avoid the worst wind on the big Middlemarch straight by going from Clyde to Middlemarch!
Oh and don’t forget to call in to the Waipiata Hotel for the best best pies for miles and miles
